Climate

We invest in and accelerate tech startups with a positive impact on the climate. We have now opened applications for The Climate Accelerator Program, powered by Lundin Foundation.

“In a typical year, the world emits over 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases.” – Bill Gates in “How to avoid a climate disaster”

Road in dusk

Our belief

51 billion tonnes of yearly greenhouse gas emissions stand between humanity and a climate disaster. According to Bill Gates in his book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, we have just 30 years to reduce that number to zero.

Together with Bill, 97% of all climate scientists, and the 191 countries that signed the Paris agreement, we are on a mission to help avoid climate disaster. To do so, we believe technological transformation and innovation will be crucial, and that entrepreneurs will drive this change. That is why we allocate capital, invest in and accelerate startups solving challenges related to climate change.

The Climate Accelerator Program, powered by Lundin Foundation, is built on our successfully proven model, and is the first program focusing solely on startups that are fighting climate change.

    Application

The first step in the application process is where the company is given the opportunity to explain what they do and what problems they solve. Particular emphasis is placed on impact and the ways in which the solution contributes to addressing this. At the second stage, we want to assess the extent to which companies match our investment profile. This is a two-step process which involves reviewing the company profile and conducting interviews in order to get to know the management team.

  • Screening and interviews

Interviewing with an accelerator is different from other interviews you would prepare for. It isn’t a job interview nor is it an investor interview. We´re nestled somewhere in between so in order to best prepare for an interview with us, please read this guide we prepared for you. We typically conduct two interviews. The interviews will be followed by further questions on the specifics. In some cases, we may ask for a third interview to clarify things further and make sure we´re all on the same page.

  • Due Diligence

Due diligence means understanding the organisation’s current situation and what is required in order to reach both business and technological milestones. The global potential of the company is also assessed.

  • Investment

We are ready to make the investment once due diligence is completed, and before the program starts. Our terms are easy to understand and founder friendly – we are looking for clear alignment so our portfolio companies can focus on growth. We invest in all program participants, often $150k for 8% equity, and we can make larger investments where it makes sense. Given our industrial focus, we have increased our accelerator investment quantum over the years in order to more meanfully support deep tech and industrial companies through their seed stages. Our follow on-funds will continue to invest in the best performing companies from our accelerator cohorts.

  • Accelerator program

The accelerator program offers an investment with ticket size ranging from $150 000-$400 000, and a 3-month hands-on fully digital program to help scale your business. Including access to a global network of leading thematic mentors, dedicated experts and corporate partners. The key topics for the program are the following; Impact strategy and measurement, Investor readiness, including networking and presentation skills, Sales, marketing and growth, Technology and product development, Organizational development: leadership, team and people.

  • Demo days

At the end of the 3-month program we host a Demo Day celebrating and presenting the selected companies to investors and corporates. Its an opportunity for the companies to showcase their progress and pitch to investors.

  • Scale investment

Katapult has raised a follow-on fund to increase our post-program capabilities and support our best performers. We can make investments in companies together with another lead investor, in Series A or similar sized rounds. Currently the fund has invested in three Katapult portfolio companies.
